Are you looking to head to Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta? Or maybe you are looking for a place to stay while rolling through on I-40? We have spent a lot of time in Albuquerque and have gathered the best family hotels to travel hack in Albuquerque. We factored in areas of town and price to give you not only the best deal, but also a safe spot for your family.
Hyatt
If you are a lover of Hyatt, or looking to transfer points from your Chase card, your options in New Mexico are quite limited. You could always swing out of town to the Hyatt Regency Tamaya, but it is a distance from town. There IS one hotel in Albuquerque that we have stayed at, so you are in luck with a recommendation.
Hyatt Place Albuquerque/Uptown – 8,000 points
This Hyatt Place is one of the few that have not yet been redone to their newer decor, but it is a Category 2 and clocks in at an average of 8,000 points per night. This is a stellar deal for a stopover hotel. Uptown Albuquerque is a fun shopping center and this is right on the edge of it and walkable to lots of great restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen, Sushi, Melting Pot, etc. You are also across the main road from a large mall that is full of great shopping.
Marriott
We have stayed in nearly every Marriott in Albuquerque, so feel free to ask me about other properties. These are the ones that would be at the top of my list.
SpringHill Suites by Marriott Albuquerque North/Journal Center – 26,500 points
This hotel is so nice and clean, and easily walkable to several restaurants. I have stayed here as a solo female and felt super safe. It is also a very easy place to have a family with 2 queen beds, and a couch that has a pull out bed under it, and someone can sleep on top of it. You are right on the north end of town but close to lots of shopping, food, and the balloon fiesta grounds.
Marriott Albuquerque – 21,500 points
This is probably our most frequented hotel in Albuquerque. You’re walking distance to the Uptown shopping center, as well as a mall. There is an endless amount of options for you to walk to, and the hotel has recently been updated and is clean and working to be a more upscale option.
TownePlace Suites Albuquerque Old Town – 18,000 points
While I have not stayed at this location, my husband and daughter stayed here on a flight delay and said it was a good spot and a clean, new hotel. I would recommend this for a family driving along I-40 and looking for a stop, as there’s a kitchenette included in your room. There’s a neat hipster food hall a quick drive away, as well as old town. For you Breaking Bad fans, a visit to the Candy Lady would be quick and easy from here.
Hilton
Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque – 50,000 points
This hotel is set up as suites and close to downtown Albuquerque which make it a good option for a family who wants easy access to restaurants or the zoo or medical centers.
IHG
Staybridge Suites: Albuquerque North – 30,000 points
This hotel is in a great, newer area of town, not far from the balloon festival.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites: Albuquerque-N. Balloon Fsta Pk – 23,000 points
This hotel is in a newer area of town and mere spitting distance from the balloon fiesta park. If you’re looking to stay for the fiesta, I’d look at booking this one a year in advance.
Staybridge Suites: Albuquerque Airport – 24,000 points
While this isn’t our favorite area of town to spend time in, we have stayed in this airport hotel corridor many times, and this hotel is one of the nicer ones here. It is a 5 minute drive to the airport, and close to several restaurants making it an easy place to stay for an early flight.
