Family Hotels in this Destination that are bookable via Credit Card Points
SJO Airport (Alajuela)
Fairfield/Courtyard Alajuela – Marriott
I can tell you from personal experience, these two hotels were so clean and easy to get to. The shuttle is shared between the hotels and picks up right outside of the baggage claim entrance. I recommend the Courtyard for larger families as you can get two queens, but the Fairfield has free breakfast so, choose your battle. HOTEL LINK
Hampton Inn San Jose Airport
This is the hotel our family members stayed at when they came in to town. Our report back said it was no frills, but was very clean with a decent breakfast. They also have rooms with 2 queens which is not always easy to find in Costa Rica. For 35,000 Hilton points a night, this is a pretty good deal. HOTEL LINK
LIR Airport (Liberia)
Hilton Garden Inn Guanacaste Airport
This hotel has a free airport shuttle which already makes it a big winner. They have rooms with 2 double beds. This might be a tight fit for a family, but its a great deal at 29,000 points per night. HOTEL LINK
La Fortuna
Tabacon Thermal Resort and Spa
This is a Hyatt property that is in the beautiful La Fortuna area nestled under the Arenal Volcano. The standard room that is bookable on points with 4 people is a king room, but many have noted success in calling the hotel after booking and having it switched to 2 Queens. This hotel also has exclusive access to the hot springs from 8-10AM, and free breakfast for World of Hyatt Members. This hotel is notoriously hard to book, so we recommend utilizing tools like Maxmypoint if looking to book here. HOTEL LINK
San Jose
Hyatt Place San Jose/Pinares
This Hyatt place will hold up to 4 people per room, with the couch it could probably hold more, but we tend to be very cautious about occupancy limits in other countries. This hotel is on the east side of San Jose, and clocks in at 6,500 points per night. HOTEL LINK
Marriott Hacienda Belen
While this hotel only has rooms with 2 doubles for families, it is easy to book a room on points for 4 people. They have a great pool and are easily accessible to many tourist facilities. This hotel generally books for 50-60k points per night. HOTEL LINK
Nicoya Peninsula/Peninsula Papagayo
JW Marriott Guanacaste
This beachfront hotel in the Guanacaste province has beautiful pools and offers family friendly 4 person rates for as low as 38,400 points per night. This area of Costa Rica is said to have some of the best beaches and if you can be patient and find the saver rate, this would be a great deal for a family. HOTEL LINK
Andaz Peninsula Papagayo
This property is drop dead gorgeous. There are rooms with a King bed and two double beds. You could either book one double bed room for your family for 25,000 points, or two separate rooms that are connected. Andaz properties include your snacks and drinks in your room. This property also has beautiful pools, beaches, and a kids club. HOTEL LINK
Planet Hollywood
At this all-inclusive resort, you can get 4 people into a 2 queen bed junior suite, for 58,000 points per night. This not only includes your food and drink, but also complimentary parking and activities for kids. The expansive pools include a small splash pool for the littles. If I was looking for a good deal on a family all-inclusive resort, I would jump at this, and book it early for an assured deal. HOTEL LINK
West Coast
Los Altos Resort – Manuel antonio
The Los Altos Resort is a small luxury hotel through Hyatt near Manuel Antonio National Park on the west coast. It costs 25k points per night for 2 people and an extra $150/person after that. The rooms are 3 room condos with plenty of space. The pool and secluded beach look beautiful. HOTEL LINK
Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort
This hotel has large spacious pools, beachfront views, and a large golf course. You can book a 2 double bed room for up to 2 people with points online, and then call and add 2 children to the reservation. At 55,000 points per night, this is a great deal for a Marriott resort. You can also easily drive to 2 national parks, or the ferry to get across the gulf. HOTEL LINK
Travel Hacking It
The 3 winners for travel hacking hotels in Costa Rica are Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott. Marriott definitely has the strongest presence followed by Hilton. If you were looking to make this trip, getting a specific credit card for one of these two hotel chains would be a good move to start with.
