I want it now!
I get it! Once you place that credit card application, you are ready for the card in your hands. Especially if you are like me, and wait until you have for sure met your last minimum spend before applying for another card. Good News! There is a way to get the cards expedited.
How to:
The long and the short of this is, just ask. I prefer to send the bank a secure message through the app. However, if your card isn’t showing up there yet, it may be better to call the bank directly. We often call the day after submitting an application, and receiving approval.
Every. Single. Time. Chase has said, “No problem,” and sent it right away. Capital One are the only ones who said, “No can do,” when I asked them to expedite. But I know others who have had varying luck with each of these banks, so, don’t be offended if you get told No.
What If I got denied and had to call reconsideration?
If you have to call the reconsideration line, and you get approved while speaking to them, GREAT! After they tell you about your approval, ask about having it expedited.
Why would I want to do this?
We have pursued an expedited credit card for a few reasons. The first is that I am usually late in applying for cards we plan to use for big expenses. Like a few days before I think, “Shoot!! I was supposed to get that!” Honestly, that’s the biggest reason. But, we have also expedited them when we were heading out of town and didn’t want a new card sitting in the mailbox.
Any reason not to do this?
I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t want to do this. It doesn’t hurt you one bit to ask. Of course, if you’re not in a hurry to get your card, no need to rush it!
Could I use this method to get 2 cards?
There is a rumor out there, that if you wait 24-48 hours after your card has been approved to ask for an expedited credit card, that you will get 2 of the exact same cards. I have never had this happen. I know that many people use this strategy so that they can have a card, along with their spouse, without adding them as an authorized user.
