Arrival
I definitely planned our stop in La Fortuna for this hotel and it DID NOT dissappoint! When we arrived at this hotel we were met with welcome smoothies for the whole family. After a long drive in the heat this was a very welcome surprise. After check-in, one of the staff members escorted us to our cabin and explained how everything worked, and filled us in on tours and meals and all the hotel had to offer.
Rooms
We had a standard room that was set up for 5 people, there was minimal extra cost to add the 5th person, we just had to call to book. Each room is it’s own private cabin. They added a very plush roll-away bed for our 5th person, and we still had plenty of room to walk and move about the room. The bathroom was large with a spacious rain shower that was delightful to shower in while the rain pinged on the roof of the building. The hotel was immaculately cleaned each day.
Breakfast
Each day, you give the staff your breakfast time, and then show up in the appointed time window. They have coffee, cocoa, and juices to drink. There is a buffet table set out with yogurt and fresh fruits. The breakfast menu consisted of traditional Costa Rican food like Gallo Pinto, as well as American breakfasts like pancakes and waffles. We tried the whole menu through our stay and it was all delicious! At breakfast they also put fruit rinds in the trees for all the birds. It’s beautiful to watch the birds while you eat.
Hot Springs
The hotel has approximately 8 different thermal pools ranging in size from large to very small. Each pool has varying temperatures, but all are beautiful in setting and location. Scattered throughout the hot springs are many individual gazebos where you could easily sit in solitude as a couple or family. There’s a great bar at the hot springs that offers small plates, smoothies, and alcoholic beverages.
The Farm
The farm is probably the cleanest farm I have ever set foot on. It is extremely evident they care for their animals well, and they grow all their own vegetables. The chickens here produce the eggs that they use for the restaurant and the children are invited to help retrieve them each day. The kids also get a chance to help milk the cows in the morning and go for a horse back ride. It was a really fun place and the staff was so delightful.
La Fortuna
The city of La Fortuna is bustling full of life for a small town. It is the gateway to the Arenal Volcano and a multitude of nature adventures. We went ziplining and did a sloth tour. We had family members who walked to a waterfall with a rope swing, and also did a guided nature float. These were just a small taste of all this beautiful city has to offer.
Travel Hacking
We decided this was the place we wanted to stay so we utilized our cash back from our Amex Blue Cash Preferred Card to pay ourselves back for this purchase. You could also pay yourself back using a Capital One Venture Card or Venture X card.
