This Luxury Manhattan hotel did not disappoint.
The Experience
I went into the stay at the Andaz 5th Avenue slightly reserved because I had heard some mixed reviews, but this hotel blew us away. I emailed the hotel ahead of time to let them know we were coming for our anniversary, and to request a possible upgrade. I did not expect an upgrade, as this hotel is consistently booked and we have no status BUT they blew us away with our anniversary treat. Shortly after we got to the room, they brought in a mini cake, a full bottle of champagne, and a beautiful card with a sketch of the city.
Also, finding ourselves there on a rainy weekend we were pleased to find free umbrellas in the lobby for guest use. They also host an evening happy hour with house wine for free. I didn’t see this advertised or being utilized, but upon asking, they promptly brought out a glass. We found the service to be consistently top notch.
The Room
We were in a basic King room, and it had a beautiful large bathroom with a rain shower, bath robes, electric blinds, and a separate siting area. It also had a well stocked mini fridge, which had free water and soft drinks, and even a couple snacks. It is standard at the Andaz properties to receive free non alcoholic beverages and snacks. The basic room here felt the same size as the “Suite Upgrade” we received from the JW Marriott, leaving us pleasantly surprised.
Location
This hotel is right across 5th avenue from the New York Public Library. (If you like books, history or architecture, make a stop in the library!) It is approximately 3 blocks from Grand Central Station, and just a 15 minute walk from Times Square. There were also several great eateries that we sampled nearby like Los Tacos #1, and Z’s Bagels.
Transportation
Obviously with Grand Central Station so close, it was super easy to grab a train or subway ride to just about anywhere in the city you wanted to go. We utilized this option the whole time we were there and were very happy with it. Many of the hotel guests used Uber and Lyft and they picked up in less than 2 minutes usually.
This also felt like a very walkable location. We walked up and down 5th avenue, and over to times square very easily.
Price
The points price for this hotel is a Category 7 – which means points prices are generally 25k-35k points per night. We paid right in the middle at 30k points per night. The cash price for this hotel can range anywhere from $400-$900 / night, and I think averages at about $590 a night. You could easily utilize a Chase Ink elevated sign up bonus and land 3 nights here at the Hyatt Andaz 5th Avenue.
Conclusion
We were lowly no-status folks, who received exceptional service and attention to detail, which spoke highly of the way this hotel seeks to operate. We were highly impressed, and on a return visit to the city would definitely consider the Andaz 5th Avenue, not only for the service, but the location as well.
