Isn’t Virgin Atlantic a British Airline?
It is! However, if you will remember our discussion about airline alliances, you know that we can utilize other points programs to book for US Airlines.
Banks and Credit Cards
Virgin Atlantic is a partner with all 4 major banks and credit card companies that we use for points and miles. This means I can transfer points to them from Chase, Citi, Capital One, and American Express.
Partners
The most notable partner of Virgin Atlantic is Delta. This means that Delta gives Virgin Atlantic a certain number of seats on their planes to book with points. In fact we booked our Anniversary trip through Virgin Atlantic on a Delta flight and it worked seamlessly.
Points Charts
Virgin Atlantic and their partners, like Delta, have differing award charts and base their award charts on different things. Without boring you with the details of how all that works, this means that Virgin Atlantic often offers the same flight as Delta for FAR less than you would book it for on Delta. This makes transferring our points to Virgin Atlantic a no-brainer for most Delta flights.
Need to Know
If you are looking at utilizing this….book early! These flights aren’t guaranteed and there are only a limited amount available to each airline. Like many points flights, just because you see it today, doesn’t mean it will be there tomorrow.
Transfer Bonuses
Virgin Atlantic loves a good transfer bonus. If you have a flight planned with them I would watch your bank for transfer bonuses of often 20-30% which reduce the points cost even more. This means when I transfer my points out of the bank and into their flight program, I will earn a bonus 20-30% of the points. This can be a huge win!
The Bottom Line
Virgin Atlantic provides tremendous value to the points and miles community with points flights for less. However, I would advise using the website on a computer, as I’ve seen that have the least number of glitches and problems.
